Tessa Perkins Deneault responds to Chimerik at VIDFs Living Room Initiative

A Living Room Response to Chimerik

Here is Tessa Perkins Deaneault’s creative response to Chimerik, presented at the Vancouver International Dance Festival as part of the Living Room series. Living Room invites artists and audience members to engage with performances through creative reflection rather than formal review, generating ongoing conversation around the work.

Chimerik is co-created and performed by Sammy Chien and Caroline Shaw, both alumni of SFU’s School for the Contemporary Arts. Their shared artistic lineage and interdisciplinary approach resonate strongly within the piece, which rewards attentiveness and emotional presence.

The response offered here aligns with Living Room’s spirit: an interpretive, reflective engagement that meets the performance on its own terms.
