Tessa Perkins Deneault at CATR2026: 50th Anniversary Conference Inheritances in Transition: Rehearsing Change for Theatre and Performance Futures

We are pleased to announce that Tessa Perkins Deneault will participate in CATR 2026: 50th Anniversary Conference, titled Inheritances in Transition: Rehearsing Change for Theatre and Performance Futures.The conference will unfold in two parts, bringing together scholars, artists, and writers to reflect on legacies, critical practices, and future possibilities in performance.

Act I: In Person — University of Victoria — 📅 May 26, 2026

As part of Paper Panel 1, Tessa Perkins Deneault will present: “The great inheritance: Companies, choreographies, and artist-driven archival projects in Vancouver dance.”  This paper explores how dance artists and companies in Vancouver are engaging with inheritance through choreographic transmission and artist-led archival practices, foregrounding questions of memory, authorship, and responsibility.

Act II: Online—  📅 June 13, 2026

Tessa will also participate in Roundtable 3: “Toward a Sustainable Future for Critical Dance Writing in Canada”Moderated by Shanny Rann (University of Arizona), the roundtable will feature a rich discussion with:

  • Emily Pettet (dance artist and writer)
  • Alana Gerecke (Capilano University)
  • Carolina Bergonzoni (University of Cape Breton)

Together, the group will address challenges and possibilities for sustaining critical dance writing in Canada across academic, artistic, and public contexts.
