Alondra Guerra is a Master’s student in Interactive Arts and Technology (SIAT) at Simon Fraser University. Originally from Panama, she moved to Vancouver to pursue graduate studies building on her interdisciplinary background in the social sciences, particularly anthropology, sociology, political science, and International Studies.

Inspired by her undergraduate thesis on the Sociology of Algorithms, Alondra conducted research on Algorithmic Racism, examining the issue through the lens of the social sciences. This work sparked her interest in exploring how artificial intelligence can be developed through more human-centered, ethical, and socially informed approaches. Before joining SIAT, Alondra worked with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Panama, the World Bank, and NGOs based in Washington, D.C. Her research interests lie at the intersection of artificial intelligence, social sciences, and critical media studies, with a particular focus on AI ethics, cultural memory, and the representation of the Global South. At cMAS, her intention is to do research that explores how generative AI mediates cultural memory and visual representation in non-Western contexts, with an emphasis on ethical and community-centered approaches to AI.
