Acá Nada / Acá Elsewhere

This video portrait of the aka collective plays with a colonial theory that suggests that the name Canada originated when Iberian explorers, having explored the northern part of the American continent, wrote “El Cabo de Nada” (Cape Nothing), acá nada (nothing here), in their maps. Working with the visual language of the trivision billboards, we are proposing a portrayal of aka in the form of a video installation. Inspired by aka’s interest in interrogating how subjectivities and political stances formed elsewhere morph, adapt and contribute to our positioning within the local landscape, we reference this history with irony and wonder.
