Hi friends, we are looking forward to welcome you to the next meetign of the Anthropocene Reading group on Wednesday, November 7th 11am-12 in room 3910 at SIAT.
The readings for this meeting are: Donna Haraway in conversation with Martha Kenney – Anthropocene, Capitalocene, Chthulhocene, in Art in the Anthropocene. And a talk by Graham Harman given at the “The Geologic Imagination’” festival in 2015: Anthropocene Ontology
Donna Haraway is a professor at University of California Santa Cruz, in the History of Consciousness and Feminist Studies departments. Her work crosses multiple disciplines and is especially important in the fields of Science and Technology Studies, New Materialism, Posthumanism, and Human-Animal Relations. This reading gives a great introduction to Haraway’s ideas around the Anthropocene and provides a good overview of her work, which we will read later on in our study group.
Graham Harman is a prominent philosopher at Southern California Institute of Architecture. His work is at the forefront of thinking in Speculative Realism and New Materialism’s, and he is one of the founders of the Object Oriented Ontology (OOO) movement. In this talk, Harman discusses the relationships between art, politics and the Anthropocene, and introduces OOO as a framework through which to contemplate the nature/culture divide.
Looking forward to see you, and together delve further into these works!
