Dr. Alejandra Bronfman is Associate Professor in the Department of History at UBC, where she studies and teaches courses in the social and cultural history of the Caribbean. Her research considers the creation of media circuits in the early 20th century with particular attention to imperial dynamics and changing political practices, and the relevance of sound and listening to modes of affiliation and belonging.
She is currently working on two projects which record the unwritten histories of sonic technologies in the early twentieth century, and Biography of a Sonic Archive, which draws from the extensive career of Laura Boulton to interrogate the use of recordings in the making of a sonic, exotic Caribbean.
